Lamayuru to Chilling trek is actually a moderate kind of trekking that focuses mainly on famous monasteries, monks, local/ tribal people, small ancient villages and stupendous valleys all around the region. In all, this trek is completely meant for the nature lovers and the spiritual beings to explore the Buddhist culture in a pure form.

The Lamayuru- Chilling trek involves a visit to the area of Shey. The Shey Gompa is about 15 kms from Leh that used to be the summer palace of the kings of Ladakh. There are lots of Stupas and Gompas built around the palace. Shey palace was built by Deldan Namgyal in the beginning of 17th century AD. The major attraction in Shey is the 12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue inside the Dresthang Gompa.

Further, the trek leads to Thiksey Gompa which is quite closer to Shey at a distance of about 17 kms from Leh. The monastery is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order. Last but not the least, the trails further leads to Hemis- one of the major regions in Ladakh to please the expeditors in a more virtual form. Hemis is about 45 kms south of Leh and is one of the most famous and largest monasteries in Ladakh. It belongs to the Drukpa order and was founded in the early 17th century. The setting of the monastery cradled in a lovely valley is simply perfect and is surrounded by streams, fronted by long Mani walls.

  • Accommodation : Leh: Guest House/hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Lamayuru: Guest House on breakfast basis. While on trek dome/alpine tent, carry mat, will be provided.

  • Transport : Arrival, departure transfer at Leh. Drop and pick up for the trek point by Toyota Qualis/Tata Sumo.

  • Meals : Leh: Only breakfast. Lamayuru: Only breakfast will serve. Trek: All meals will be freshly prepared and will be a mix of Indian, Chinese & Continental.

  • Mules/Porters : For carrying camping equipment, rations, vegetables and some amount of personal gear of the clients (one bag not weighing more than 15 kgs).

Itinerary

Take the morning flight for Leh. Check into the guest house and relax the whole day. This is necessary for getting acclimatised. Overnight at the guesthouse.

The drive from Leh to Lamayuru takes about three hours. After a visit to the ancient monastery at Lamayuru, you can start your walk to Wanla which is a short hour away; past a small pass Prinkti La (3750m). Dinner and overnight stay in guest house.

Today's trek winds through more quaint Ladakhi villages before arriving at the meadow camp outside the village of Hinju.

A gradual ascent will bring you to the Kongskil La ridge from where you will get great views of Stok and Karakoram ranges. The other side pass is scree and a little difficult to negotiate.

After a few river crossings and the village of Sumdo Chenmo, the trails starts gradually ascending to the base of Dung Dung Chan La. Look out for edelweiss and other rare flowers of Ladakh along the way.

It's a straight climb from the Dung Dung Chan La pass. The trail then descends gradually to the village of Chilling from where a vehicle will pick you up and drop you off at Leh.

The day is for explorations.

In the morning we will drive for Leh along with Zanskar River & eventually reach its confluence with the River Indus. From here the road is good & it is easy drive back to Leh. On arrival transfer to hotel. Dinner & overnight stay in hotel.

In the morning transfer to the airport to catch flight for Delhi. On arrival at Delhi take a half day guided sightseeing. In the evening transfer to International airport to catch onwards flight.
