The lately opened mountain road from Leh in Ladakh to Manali provides undoubtedly one of the greatest road journeys in the world, Linking Buddhist Ladakh and the tribal areas of Lahaul with the fertile Kullu Valley, the road traverses the Greater Himalayas over a series of famous passes with the Tanglang La at 5360 mts being the second highest in the world. Driving through some unbelievably wild scenery, the views from the top of these passes are truly stunning.
The mountains and river valleys of Sikkim and the eastern Himalayas shelter and incredible variety of orchids, ferns, butterflies, and birds. In springtime, entire slopes are ablaze with pink and white rhododendron and magnolia blooms. Dominated by Kanchenjanga, the third highest mountain in the world, these fertile valleys are home to a colorful mix of Tibetans, Nepalese, Triabl Lepchas,, Indo-Tibetan Bhatia’s and Bengalis from the tropical plains.
